I was shocked when I heard from a “security professional” that using dark web as means understanding cyber threats has been Just Recently been discovered by them as an effective defense mechanism!
no kidding! then why we are surprised we get hacked by the most trivial TTP out there? this is very disappointing that “security researchers” are not even close to reality of cybersecurity mail pillars.
cybersecurity efforts are directly driven and affected by cyber criminals so how in the earth we want to have a safe and secure cyberspace without understanding the roots of cyber crimes?
using all aspect of a society, motivations, goals, drivers, pillars… in order to make sure a society is secure should not be something new or a discovery. have we secured our real life by sitting and blindly trying to secure homes, cities and country borders, or we studied how criminals are exploiting our vulnerabilities? did not we send an undercover cop to a criminal organization in order to see what is happening inside and what will be the next step criminals are going to take?
I have been researching dark side of the cyberspace (not necessarily what community calls dark web) for decades, since 90’s when for the first time I was introduced to The Net. it is not a new discovery, it is The Most Fundamental step to take.
