Why are we struggling with cybersecurity? Why does it feel like hammering water when it comes to securing your assets in the cyber world?
It’s a different story if you don’t believe that the majority of the industry is wasting time, thinking they are doing the right things to secure their network. Then how come “this” never ends?
Oh yes, the wrong perception/myth: security is a journey, blah blah blah. Sure, let me translate it in other words: Security is a good thing to make money from, to come up with a new word/acronym every single day or even rebrand the same things again and again and sell it to those “committed” to security.
Obviously, if we did the right things yesterday, we would not have any security issues today. It is all about paying attention to results. Security could be a destination; it has to be, just like your health. The only tricky part is the “balance” you choose, whether you want to be 100% secure or 100% usable. Otherwise, security is, in fact, a project with a beginning and an end. Please stop thinking about a new tool or a new thing to sell in the market. The first step is to admit that what we (the industry makes us believe) have been doing is not right..
Why Are We Struggling With Cybersecurity?

While I enjoy working with electronics, computers, and the fields of information and cybersecurity, I believe our challenges as humans extend far beyond infosec—and even beyond technology itself. The real task, I would argue, is to discover solutions for unlimited clean energy, drinkable water, practical waste management and to address the root causes of hunger, war, and injustice on our beautiful little planet. Our primary goal—each of us—should be to keep Earth livable. That is the true challenge we face.
